The author thought that these files were a good idea when he made them,
but either

  * they have not proven as useful as he had at first thought that they
    would, or
  * they were once useful but are less so now, or
  * they are merely programs or scripts the book's author used during
development to check that some formula or he was typesetting was
    correct, or
  * they are programs or scripts the book's author used to make initial
calculations toward a diagram or the like, or
  * they roughly fit some other deprecatable description along these
    general lines.

For now at any rate, they are kept here.

Despite the possible appearance of subdirectories, the files are piled
here in a disorganized way. Some that used to be here have been
deleted altogether.

Note that the *.m scripts can be run (if for some reason you wish them
run) by GNU Octave.
